Yes, I remember in high school a teacher was introducing us to the concept of "pacifism." He told us a story about an old woman in her house when a man broke in and threatened her with a knife. She smiled at him, projected all her love and kindness towards him and began to chat. Something like "Why son, why are you doing that?"

And she was just so nice and friendly and kind that he was taken aback. Of course he had expected her to be terrified, submissive! In the end, she fed him some lunch and he went on his merry way.

That to me is TRUE POWER, true strength. Thanks NPR for getting news like this out into the world. PEACE NOW, FREEDOM NOW!
