Oddly enough, I found this piece on a pop music list I'm on, but here is a letter from London by Michael Goldfarb (who I have no familiarity with). The letter really hit home for me in the ending paragraphs:

Hollywood, you're so goddam liberal, right? Because you give all that money to the Democrats, money earned from making idiot, brain-dead, bang, crash wallop CGI nonsense. Stop polluting the cultural atmosphere and get back to stories with real people struggling in our modern society.

This struck me as particularly powerful because Hollywood might give a lot of money to democratic causes, but it should start using its creative strengths and immense global reach to start uniting us around the kinds of christian (and muslim and...) principles that matter -- minimizing human misery.
A proposal for how bush might be a uniter, not a divider.

Oddly enough, the recent election has me disappointed but not as angry as the last one. At least I don't feel like the election was blatantly stolen like last time, with bush losing majority and winning electoral solely riding the supreme court. While there are concerns about voting machine accuracy, I do feel that Americans (by a sliver majority) want what we got on Nov 2nd. Now to figure out how to get across that rift of understanding.

Do you have suggestions? Let me know.
My friend posted a rallying cry for 2008 that offers more insight and clarity than anything I've heard so far.

Compassion for the poor, health care for all, fighting to end hunger, and access to education are christian values, are they not?
